Positive Changemakers: Mark Lakeman
Mark Lakeman is a “communitect”—an architect of communities—dedicated to reclaiming public space across North America and the world. In our urban landscapes, public spaces have often been neglected or deliberately excluded from city planning, a byproduct of capitalism that prioritizes profit over communal areas.
To restore public space, particularly our roads, Mark launched an initiative in Portland where residents come together in their neighborhoods to temporarily close off an intersection. For one day, they paint a street mural, transforming what was once a mere thoroughfare into a vibrant, shared space—reclaiming ownership, adding beauty, and fostering a sense of community.

Mother Medicine
The story of mothers from around the country who come together for a retreat led by a homeopathic doctor in Ashland, Oregon. Each mother has a story of how their complex children’s healing journey led them to this particular place. Learning how to heal themselves ultimately empowers them to trust their intuition in healing their family. Going into the darkness to find the light.
Sunshine To Death
A poetic reflection on death and the dying process, interweaving 3 stories.
One of a hospice worker and the realities of facing death every day, one of a musician who had an encounter with death through a rare disease and made it back to tell his story, and an artist who creates ephemeral pieces of art, submerging plants in water tanks after using a special bleaching process that takes all color out of the plant.
